Acute gastroenteritis (GE) is the second leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide1,2,3, often provoked by Norovirus, Rotavirus and Adenovirus in both children and adults. Rotavirus A is the first cause of diarrhea in children under 2 years old4, and 73% of GE outbreaks in the elderly are caused by Norovirus5.
Screening efforts must focus particularly on enteric viruses as they are extremely contagious6. Rapid isolation of infected patients is essential to limit outbreaks, especially in community settings. It is therefore important to be able to identify the origin of the disease as soon as possible. Differentiating a bacterial from a viral gastroenteritis will also avoid unnecessary antibiotic prescription.
bioMérieux offers BIONEXIA® Noro/Rota-Adeno: a qualitative immunochromatographic test for the rapid detection and differentiation of Norovirus, Rotavirus and Adenovirus in human stool specimens. It can be used in labs or during medical consultations for optimized patient management.
